Recruitment Insurance definitions

Sometimes it's hard to understand not only what type of cover you need, but what each product covers. Our Recruitment Insurance definitions helps you understand the cover types - most of the time we can tailor your insurance requirements to make one single policy with Thistle Recruitment Insurance.

Professional Indemnity

Professional indemnity insurance covers legal costs and expenses incurred if you are alleged to have provided inadequate services or advice that causes your client to suffer a financial loss.

A professional indemnity example - A recruitment agency is looking to place a candidate and due to not being diligent, the agency send the candidate's CV to their current employer resulting in financial loss to the candidate, and or damaging the candidates relationship with their employer.

Public Liability

Our public liability insurance protects you in the event that you cause bodily injury or damage to third party or their property.

An example of public liability - A company hires a temporary worker through your recruitment agency, and then hold you responsible if the temporary worker causes damage or injury through their actions.

Office Package Insurance

Office package insurance protects your business assets such as computer equipment, furniture, fixtures and fittings for a number of risks such as fire, flood and theft.

An example - Your office premises are broken into and your computer equipment is stolen. Our policy would pay for the replacement of the computer equipment and any damage caused by the infiltrators.

Employers' Liability

Employers’ liability provides cover against legal liability for bodily injury to anyone employed by your business, but also extends to provide protection in the event of a claim from a temporary worker placed by you.
An example of employers' liability - A member of your own staff or a temporary worker placed by you is injured during the course of their duties and raises a claim against you for their injuries and costs.

Drivers Negligence

If your recruitment agency places temporary drivers you might be required to cover damages caused to the hirers vehicle by your temporary driver. This extension to the public liability will provide cover for the vehicle being driven.

Specified Business Equipment

Under this cover you can specify business equipment that is used away from your office premises such as mobile phones, laptops and tablets.

An example - A member of your staff working on a train and drops their laptop, breaking the screen. Our cover would either repair or replace the damaged item

Directors & Officers

D&O insurance provides cover against compensation claims that may be made against your business’s directors and key managers (officers) for alleged wrongful acts. Directors and officers are often responsible for the businesses decisions, which is why this product is key to protecting them and their personal assets against shareholders, employees, investors or third parties should they try to make a claim.

An example - Directors of a recruitment agency, which have been facing financial difficulty, place their business into liquidation. The insolvency practitioner becomes aware that the directors’ loan account is overdrawn and feels there is sufficient reason to pursue the directors as they believe the directors should repay their outstanding balance. The liquidator, who acts in the interest of the company’s creditors, has no option but to sue the former directors personally for repayment, leaving them vulnerable to the risk of personal bankruptcy and having the fund the costs of their defence from their own assets. By having a Directors & Officers policy, this would have assisted and defended the directors’ defence cost, but would not have repaid the debt if this was proven to be owed.
